for Gregory Joe Bledsoe Gregory Joe Bledsoe developed his singing interests in high school, where he sang in the choral group. Upon graduating from college and law school in 1977, he began singing with the "Voices of Legacy." "Legacy" was an a capella group which sang spirituals throughout the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. From 1982 through 1985, with his brother Anthony and Tureda Mikell, he formed the trio "Children of Light". He began developing lyrics for songs during this period. In 1983, Bledsoe became an Oakland elementary school teacher. He understood that academics were important, but realized that the students' self-esteem and confidence would allow them to become positive members of a productive society. He employed positive approaches in his teaching, e.g. encouraging feedback in a loving, warm, and non-threatening environment. Here, Bledsoe began writing songs and poems as an alternative to some of the negative lyrical songs recited by students. "Instruments on Parade" was born from his unique approach to teaching in 1984. "Instruments" is a group of talented, professional musicians who demonstrate the sound and range of various instruments, explaining the origin and contemporary use of them with motivational poems and songs. Instruments include: Drums, Guitars, Steel Pans, Reeds, Piano, and Horns. They provide musical assemblies for schools throughout the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. Gregory's aim to provide enjoyable, self-empowering positive music and the development of positive values led to the formation of "Source of Light" in 1987. Bledsoe's range in sound has been compared to Curtis Mayfield, Al Jarreau, Phillip Bailey. Although this may be true, his astounding vocal musicianship is uniquely Gregory Joe Bledsoe. His musical style is a delightful mix of jazz, reggae, R&B, pop, calypso, and gospel music. Currently, "Source of Light," with its inspirational messages,
perform in schools, colleges, fairs, festivals, night clubs, and churches.
"Mind-Moving Motivational Music" is the phrase being used to describe Gregory
